Helping Communities
In 2009, the Foundation awarded a grant to College Bound Opportunities (CBO), an organization that assists high school students in realizing their college dreams. CBO is a not-for-profit organization centered in the five communities within Deerfield and Highland Park High School District 113, northwest of Chicago, Illinois. CBO identifies high-achieving young people who, without support, would likely forgo post-secondary education and assists them in applying to and completing college. CBO goals are achieved through a program of one-on-one coaching between volunteers and scholars. Additional aid provided by CBO includes tutoring, training services, laptop computers, and up to $4,000 per year in scholarships.

Changing Lives
Liz made the Dean's List — and raised her sights — after working with a CBO coach. When Liz first met her coach, she hoped to earn a two-year certificate in pre-school teaching. After one-on-one coaching, her grades improved, and she now plans to get a degree in international affairs so that she can not only give back to her community, but also help people in other countries. Her personal life also has been enriched by the confidence she is gaining as she continues to grow.
