FUNDING

We have specific requirements to determine if grant requests are eligible for review. Each grant request is screened in advance of review to determine whether it meets the mandatory criteria. Interested organizations are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the requirements before submitting a request for funding.

The entire grant approval process can take upwards of three to six months.

Our process includes specific roles and responsibilities for each segment of our organization to assure we follow best practices. We fund focused projects with trusted organizations and evaluate the successes and challenges of the programs annually to ensure the programs are achieving the intended goals.

All submissions are evaluated by our governance team.

  • Within at least one of Astellas USA Foundation’s Area of Interest and meet the Eligibility Criteria
  • Made to organizations that are a public 501(c)(3) charity based and have a current Section 501(c)(3) determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service, or the charitable Registration Number issued by Canada Revenue Agency
  • Made to organizations where the mission statement of the organization is aligned with the request
  • Made to organizations that have demonstrated a history of achievement and effective management
  • Made for a charitable purpose and without any commercial motive or appearance of commercial motive
  • Provided directly to the account of the organization requesting the contribution and in the amount agreed to by Astellas USA Foundation
  • Provided without regard to the requesting charitable organization’s prescription, purchasing, or recommendation history in relation to the Astellas Group
  • Approved prior to the start date of the event or activity the funding is supporting

Documents you will need

  • IRS 501.c.3 status letter
  • Detailed program budget
  • Letter of Request on organization’s letterhead
  • Signed W-9 Form
  • Objectives of program initiative

WHAT WE DO NOT FUND (EXCLUSIONS)

  • Provided to organizations with administrative costs totaling more than 25% of total funds of the program being funded
  • Provided to third parties or representatives of charitable organizations
  • General operating expenses
  • Capital campaigns
  • Continuing medical education (CME) grants
  • Educational activities for healthcare professionals or patients that relate to an Astellas Therapeutic Area of Interest
  • Professional medical associations or societies
  • Academic medical centers
  • Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) organizations that are public charities by virtue of being described in Section 509(a)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
  • Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) organizations that are private foundations
  • Individuals, including scholarships for individuals

  • Medical fellowships or residencies
  • Endowments
  • Political organizations established under Internal Revenue Code Section 527
  • Lobbying activities
  • Contributions to political candidates, political parties or political action committees (PACs)
  • Religious groups for religious purposes
  • Applied research in any area
  • Basic research in Astellas Therapeutic Areas of Interest
  • Proposals that pose a potential conflict of interest with the commercial goals of Astellas USA Foundation, including activities that could influence the sale, distribution or development of an Astellas product
